The ApplyAnyway bot

Last updated: 2026-09-26

ApplyAnyway is a job search service. Our crawler reads public job postings on employers' career sites and on job boards, so that people looking for work can find them. We send candidates to you: every posting we show links to its original page, and candidates apply there, on your site. We do not apply on anyone's behalf.

How to recognise it

Our requests carry this User-Agent:

applyanyway/0.1 (+https://applyanyway.app/bot)

A small number of sites that refuse short bot signatures receive the same identity in the conventional crawler form:

Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; applyanyway/0.1; +https://applyanyway.app/bot)

The token to use in robots.txt is applyanyway.

All of our requests come from these addresses, which are used by this crawler and nothing else. A request carrying our name from any other address is not ours.

robots.txt

We read your robots.txt before we request anything from your site and re-read it at least once a day. We follow it as RFC 9309 describes: the group for applyanyway if you write one, otherwise the * group, with the longest matching rule deciding. If your robots.txt answers with a server error or does not answer, we fall back to the last copy we read successfully, for up to 30 days, and without one we do not crawl your site until it answers.

We honour Crawl-delay as the minimum gap between two of our requests to your site.

Where a service publishes a documented public API for this purpose, we use that API under its published terms.

How fast

We space our requests to each site, usually by several seconds and often by a minute or more, and we slow down further when a site asks us to. A 429 or 503 answer makes us back off, and we respect a Retry-After header.

What it reads

Public job listings and job posting pages only. It never logs in, never applies to a job, never sends anyone's personal data, and never reads candidates' data. Where a site shows its listings only after a search, it may use that site's own search, as a visitor would.

How to limit or block it

To keep us out of your whole site:

User-agent: applyanyway
Disallow: /

To keep us out of part of it, or to slow us down:

User-agent: applyanyway
Disallow: /private/
Crawl-delay: 30

Changes take effect within a day. If you want something sooner, or anything else, write to support@applyanyway.app.
